The July Uprising 2024 was a significant event in the history of Bangladesh. It was a student led protest from July 16 to August 5, 2024, demanding reforms in the quota system for government jobs. Students and people wanted equal job oppotunities, but the government, which ruled for over 15 years, refused to act. In stead, it used police, its affiliated groups and law enforcement agencies to suppress the protests. Police fired on protesters, resulting in more than one thousand deaths and thousands of injuries.
This brutality united people from all walks of life against the government. The quota reform movement soon transformed into a demand for the government's resignation. Under intense public pressure, the then Prime Minister including family members fled the country on August 5, 2024. On August 8, 2024, as per the people's demand Dr. Muhammad Yunus was appointed chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh.
The July uprising was a turning point, highlighting the people's frustration with oppression and antarctic rule. It demonstrated the power of unity and people's determination for justice and democratic reforms in Bangladesh.

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in South Africa. He had two nick names: Madiba and Black Pimpernel. From his boyhood, he saw the cruelty of the White to the Black. At that time, the White people hate the Black people. It was unbearable to the little Madiba. Becoming actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement in his 20s, Madiba joined the African National Congress in 1942. For 20 years, he directed a peaceful and non-violent defiance against the South African Government. For this, he was in the jail on Robben Island for 18 years. In 1993, Mandela and F.W. de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1994, Mandela was elected the South Africa's first Black President. In 2009, Mandela's birthday, July 8, was declared as 'Mandela Day' by the UN. Mandela died at his home in Johannesburg at the age of 95.

Socrates was a great philosopher. He was a great teacher too. He lived in Athens in Greece. About 2300 years have passed since he died. This great man, the wisest philosopher and teacher of his time, however, did not die a natural death. He was killed by the rulers of Athens. Socrates was born in 459 BC in Athens. It was the home of sculpture. Probably his father was a sculptor. He helped his father in his work. He wanted to spread knowledge among the people. To educate the people was the mission of his life. He would often go out in the streets of Athens and ask people simple questions. If their answers were wrong, he would correct them. Socrates soon became very popular with the young people who learnt from him. But some men in authority became jealous of the great popularity of Socrates among people. They brought two charges against him. One was that he was educating the traitors. The other was that he was corrupting the young men of Athens. Finally, he was killed by drinking a cup of juice of Hemlock.
