The July Uprising 2024 was a significant event in the history of Bangladesh. It was a student led protest from July 16 to August 5, 2024, demanding reforms in the quota system for government jobs. Students and people wanted equal job oppotunities, but the government, which ruled for over 15 years, refused to act. In stead, it used police, its affiliated groups and law enforcement agencies to suppress the protests. Police fired on protesters, resulting in more than one thousand deaths and thousands of injuries.
This brutality united people from all walks of life against the government. The quota reform movement soon transformed into a demand for the government's resignation. Under intense public pressure, the then Prime Minister including family members fled the country on August 5, 2024. On August 8, 2024, as per the people's demand Dr. Muhammad Yunus was appointed chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh.
The July uprising was a turning point, highlighting the people's frustration with oppression and antarctic rule. It demonstrated the power of unity and people's determination for justice and democratic reforms in Bangladesh.
